Adventure Zone is Rugby’s indoor soft-play centre for children aged 0–12. Our family’s connection to Rugby goes back generations, and since opening in 2007 we have worked to create a fun and welcoming place where local children can explore, play and make brilliant memories.

Our family’s connection to Rugby goes back generations. It is the town where our family has lived, worked and raised families of its own, and it is where Adventure Zone has welcomed local children since 2007.
What started as one family-run soft-play centre at Somers Road has grown into a large indoor entertainment venue in Rugby Central, bringing Adventure Zone and Strikes together under one roof.
Adventure Zone opens at Somers Road
Darren and Lorraine opened Adventure Zone at Somers Road in Rugby, creating an independent, family-run soft-play centre for local children and their families.
It became a place for first visits, rainy afternoons, birthday celebrations and family memories. Some of the children who visited us in those early years now return with children of their own.
Fifteen years at Somers Road
Adventure Zone remained at its original Somers Road home for around 15 years, welcoming thousands of local families through its doors.
The centre changed and developed over that time, but it remained independently run by the same Rugby family who opened it in 2007.
Planning and building PAR’N’BAR
When the leisure industry faced the enormous challenges of the Covid period, our family used the closure to plan and build something completely new.
PAR’N’BAR was created as a crazy-golf and bar concept, giving families, adults and groups another independent entertainment venue in Rugby.
Moving everything into Rugby Central
After 15 years at Somers Road, Adventure Zone moved into a much larger new home on Level 2 of Rugby Central Shopping Centre.
Josh joined Darren and Lorraine in the family business to help manage the day-to-day operation, coordinate the move and support the team as the business entered its biggest period of change.
His role developed across the whole venue, including operations, staffing, new activities, systems, maintenance and the continued development of both Adventure Zone and the adult entertainment side of the business.
Much of the new venue was planned, built and developed directly by the family and team. It was an ambitious project created in Rugby, by people from Rugby, for a town that had supported Adventure Zone for more than 15 years.
Adventure Zone and PAR’N’BAR unite
The move brought Adventure Zone and PAR’N’BAR together inside one large entertainment venue for the first time.
Adventure Zone gained a larger soft-play home, while the entertainment side began expanding beyond crazy golf and a bar.
PAR’N’BAR becomes Strikes Bar
PAR’N’BAR evolved into Strikes Bar as six full-length ten-pin bowling lanes were added to the Rugby Central venue.
Pool tables, shuffleboard, live sport and arcade games joined the existing crazy golf, creating a much larger entertainment destination alongside Adventure Zone.
Strikes Bar is becoming Strikes Social
After two years of operating, listening, learning and improving, Strikes Bar is now evolving into Strikes Social.
It is more than a change of name. Strikes Social is being developed as a premium games bar with a new look, an improved service model and an even stronger focus on social competitive entertainment.
Adventure Zone remains at the heart of the family side of the venue, while Strikes Social represents the next stage of a Rugby family business that continues to invest in its home town.
Plans to extend the entertainment centre
Our journey at Rugby Central is not finished. We are working towards taking on additional space to extend the existing venue and create even more activities under one roof.
The ambition is to provide more active play and new experiences for Adventure Zone, alongside additional games and social activities for Strikes Social.
Any expansion will be developed carefully and in stages, subject to securing the additional space and the necessary agreements and approvals. The aim is to keep building a venue that gives children, families, groups and adults more reasons to enjoy a day or night out in Rugby.
Our home is Rugby. It always has been.
The Malt family’s roots in Rugby go back generations. We grew up here, built our business here and have watched generations of local families walk through the doors of Adventure Zone.
Darren and Lorraine opened the original centre in 2007. Josh later joined them to help manage its day-to-day operation and take the family business into its next chapter.
With the same family owning and operating Adventure Zone since 2007, we are proud to be among the UK’s longer-established independent soft-play operators and one of the longer-serving family ownership teams still working within the industry.
Being long-established does not mean the play equipment has been left standing still. It is regularly checked, maintained and refreshed, with parts repaired or replaced whenever required to keep the centre looking bright, modern and ready for the next generation of adventurers.
You will regularly find members of the family serving customers, supporting the team, repairing something, building something new or working after closing so the venue is ready to open again the following morning.
Being independent means decisions are made inside the venue by the people who see how it operates every day. The improvements we make, the people we employ and the opportunities we create all remain connected to the town we call home.

Adventure Zone may be one of the UK’s longer-established independent soft-play businesses, but the venue continues to evolve.
Our play equipment is regularly checked, maintained and updated, with worn or outdated parts repaired or replaced whenever required. The aim is for a centre that has years of experience behind it without looking or feeling its age.
Alongside the continued development of Adventure Zone and Strikes Social, our future plans include securing more space and extending the entertainment centre with additional activities for both sides of the venue.
